Soroptimist International of Mendocino-Sonoma Coast, Inc.

Thats the meaning of the word Soroptimist. Soroptimists are women at their best helping other women to be their best!

Each of us is part of an international organization for business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world.  Almost 95,000 Soroptimists in about 120 countries and territories contribute time and financial support to community based and international projects that benefit women and girls.

Soroptimists are members of individual clubs, We are a local organization in the company of thousands of other similar organizations all over the world. Do you want to make a difference in your community?  Consider joining us as we provide new lives for women who have experienced challenges greater than we can ever imagine.  Be a part of the effort to provide equal access to education to girls around the world.  Add your voice to the chorus of women in every continent who are increasing awareness of human trafficking and providing healthcare opportunities to women and girls in need. It will bring out the best in you!

Our Structure

Soroptimist International of Mendocino-Sonoma Coast

SIMSC was chartered April 29, 1979, and over the years funded or helped give a start to many local projects that improve the lives of women and girls as well as a number of civic projects including the Lighthouse restoration and Museum, Garcia fire and rescue squad, Shamli Hospice, Youth swimming project (now Parks & Recreation summer swimming) Domestic Violence prevention programs, Action Network. We support many childrens field trip programs and helped send local students on to leadership programs in Washington D.C. and around the country.

Founder Region

Founder Region  is so named because the first Soroptimist club met and was chartered in Oakland, California in 1921 when the first club, Alameda County was formed.  The Constitution of that first club stated the purpose of Soroptimist was "To foster the spirit of service..."  That purpose and "spirit of service" drives every Soroptimist club, district, region, and federation to this day.

In addition to other programs, the region's permanent identifying project is Founder Region Fellowship. This effort offers fellowships and grants to women enrolled in graduate schools within the boundaries of Founder Region who are in the last year of their doctoral studies.

Founder Region encompasses ten north coast counties in California, the State of Hawai'i, and the U.S. territories of Guam & the Marianas.
